So your flight just touched down at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) ...
and you want to find your hotel using the train...
you bought the train ticket at the airport, travel via KLIA express and now you find yourself at KL Sentral station. What next ?? Here is the walk-through for you. I assume you already know which station you're heading to (your hotel itinerary should provide some information, right??).
KL Sentral is quite big, it has 4 levels in total. You will arrive at level 1 (all train systems, including KTM Komuter, LRT, Monorail, KLIA express and KLIA Transit are located here in the 1st floor, except the intercity-state which is at level 2).
Here is the floor plan of Level 1 KL Sentral
You will arrive at the "star". Walk towards and turn LEFT at Starbucks. Walk till you find McDonald at the end. Now you are at the centre of KL SENTRAL |
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your hotel's train station is within the KTM Komuter system, look for the gate and ticket counter/machine for Komuter. As shown in picture below.
On the Left : KTM Komuter gate with the ticket counter (people lining up) beside it.
On the Right : KTM Komuter ticket machine.
Tips : During peak hours (5-6am & 5-8pm everyday), the queue is very long. Make use of the ticket machine. There are more than 5 ticket machines, meanwhile there are only 2 ticket counters. However, the machine is slightly outdated, it does not accept new Malaysian notes & new coins, only the old notes & old coins are acceptable. Sometimes it will runs out of change, so you'll need exact amount.
Suggestion : Don't waste your time lining up for the machine, join the ticket counter line (the more the merrier, lol ).
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your hotel's train station is within the LRT system. Look for a different gate and ticket counter/machine. As shown below.
LRT System : KL Sentral
Ticket Machine located inside, just before at the gate entrance
On the top : LRT system, walk inside a bit, you'll find several ticket machines on your right and left. The ticket counter is at the Left side, further inside.
Tips : This machine is up to date and more reliable. It has touch screen. Uses "computerized chip" as your ticket. They sell "MyRapid Passes", like UK's tube oyster card, can be used at LRT, Monorail & myRapid buses (not for KTM Komuter).
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If your hotel's station is within the Monorail system, you have to walk a bit more...
P/s : We are building an integrated link between KL Sentral & Monorail (Nu Sentral), still under construction as of Sept 2013.
Walk towards the direction shown from the picture above. You have to go downstairs, unfortunately there is no lift or escalator. Walk along the pedestrian route provided. As shown in the picture below.
Downstairs Pedestrian Route from KL Sentral to Monorail. |
Walk along the route, till you reach junction with traffic light, like this. Turn right & cross the street. |
Cross this road. Then turn Right, walk straight, in 50 meters, the Monorail station is at your left |
Tips : Just follow the crowd. Most of them are using this route on daily basis, you can't get lost here.
